NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME ( NSS)

     The National Service Scheme unit of the College has been functioning since the academic year 1987 - 1988. There are three units functioning in the institute with 100 volunteers for each unit. They under take community and rural development activities, under two broad categories (a) Regular activities programme (b) Special camping programme in the adopted villages of the College.
     Under regular programme, the NSS volunteer work for 120 hours for 2 academic years, where as in the special camping programme the enrolled volunteer works for 10 days in the adopted village, slum carries out various welfare activities based on the theme announced by the Department of sports and youth affairs, Govt. of India from time to time. The Principal is the chariman of the unit.

National service scheme (NSS) is a permanent program for student youth under department & affairs and sports, government of India, and founded by both central and state governments in the ratio of 5:7

MOTTO OF NSS

The motto of NSS is “NOI ME BUI YOU”, if underlines that the welfare of an Individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of selfless service and appreciation of the other main point of view and also consideration for fellow human being.
     
SYMBOL OF NSS

The symbol NSS is based on the rat wheel of the korari sun temple of grins a. The giant wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation, release and signifies the movement in the life across time and space.

The design of the symbol, a simplified form of sun char of  wheel primarily despites movement the wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life it also stands for dynamism and progressive out look of youth.
   
NSS UNITES

Three NSS units are functioning in the, which are affinities to NSS cell. Direct of Technical Education College, Chennai - 25. 100 students volunteers, guided by our programmer officer each, who in a family member. One unit in exclusively meant for girls, with a woman program officer.

The program officer motivates the student youth to understand the values are philosophy of NSS. He also helps the student, to plan, implement our evaluate the activities of NSS.

NSS STUDENT VOLOUNTEERS
           
The student enrolled as NSS volunteers, should put in a minimum of 240 hours of useful community service, in a connective period of two years (120 hrs/years). Those who are completely 240 hours of service are eligible to get service certificate, from NSS cell Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai – 2.    

THEME OF NSS FOR 2008 – 2009

  • Every year the government of India prescribes a theme for NSS. Based on this NSS activities for the year shall be carried all. Healthy youth for healthy India in the theme for this academic year. Under this theme all the health related issues sulfa, general health. HIV/AIDS, Adolescent healthy issues are addressed to Activities of NSS.
  • The activities of NSS are carried are, I) Regular activities and II) Special campus activities. Under regular activities student volunteers, undertake various programmer in the adopted village for college campus.
  • Special campus activities are carried and based on the theme, in the adopted village for seven days.
