EQUIPED TO SERVE is the motto with which the csi polytechnic college Salem was started in the the year 1984.approvel by Tamil nadu government was given from 13-06-1984as per GO .Ms.No.764. The first Approval of AICTE.New Delhi was given letter No.F:45-94\B |||\RC (MB)/93/13773 Dated 10 Janauary 1994. The College is run by Coimbatore Diocese of The church of south India, a Christian organization known for its Pioneering Work in the field Education. The Bishop in Coimbatore is the Chairman of the Polytechnic College.

The Chronological order of introduction of branches of study in the Polytechnic College is

• * The courses were abolished in the year 1986 and 2002 respectively
• $ Accredited by NBA - AICTE, New Delhi.

The Latest Approval of AICTE New Delhi for all the courses presently offered was given vide AICTE letter F.No: TN 89 - 029 - DIP/2008/7309 Dated 09th June 2008.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA - AICTE, New Delhi) has Awarded the Accreditation Status to the following Three Programme of our College for three years, with effect from 20th July 2005 as per letter F.No: NBA/ ACCR - 556/ 2004 Dated August 16th 2005.

• Diploma in Civil Engineering.
• Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

The Status was awarded to the above programme of our College on the presumption that the programmes have maintained and implemented the prescribed standarads of quality education. Initiatives have been taken to reaccredit the above courses and accredit all the other courses in this year.

This College admits both Boys & Girls following the rules and regulations stipulated by the Directorate of Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Polytechnic campus is stuated in a beautiful site in Hasthampatty, a sub-urban at the foot hills of picturesque Shervaroys Hills in Easternn Ghats on the way to Yercaud. Though started in a humble way in an old bungalow, it has made rapid progress in creating  the needed infrastructural facilities and will continue to strive hard to reach great heights in its endeavour.

The College is presently having a Builtup area of 12,000 sq.m with and approximate Cost of 5.5 Cores Exculding Machineries and Laboratory Equipments. The present total student Strength fo the College is 1948 including 312 girls. To Cater the need of the present strength of the student community, a total No of 128 Faculties and Staffs are serving in the College at present.

In order to get itself involved in the National Programmes sof providing technical skill know how in the rural areas, it also offers courese in several trades to rural youth under the THADCO scheme. It has got ambitious plans to become ultimately a Community Polytechnic there by catering to the needs of both urban and rural areas and to render service to Industries and Engineering Departments in this part of Tamil Nadu by converting its Laboratories and Workshop into testing and production centres. As per the guidelines given by th SPCU of Directorate of Technical education, need based continuing education programmes are offered under TCPC(Training and Production Centre).

The objective of the Polytechnic is to give students of all creeds and castes Technical Education to become useful and practical Engineers and to Equip them in the service of God and People.
